Town to Host FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map Review Session Aug. 13

A roundup of five things to know in Barnstable for Thursday, Aug. 8.

1. Barnstable officials will welcome representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on Tuesday, Aug. 13 for a review session regarding FEMA's new flood insurance rate maps. The session will take place from 3-6 p.m. in the hearing room on the second floor of Barnstable Town Hall, 367 Main St. in Hyannis. Representatives from the state's Flood Hazard Management Program will be on-hand as well. For more information, visit the Barnstable town website. 

2. Weekend Outlook: The Centerville Public Library will host an Ice Cream Social with the Toe Jam Puppet Band on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m. 

3. In Case You Missed It: The MSPCA-Centerville's dog of the week is Daysha, a 3-year-old Pit Bull/Pharaoh Hound mix.

4. Gearing up for its 375th birthday next year, Barnstable officials are seeking a new logo for the special event, and you can vote online through Aug. 16 to pick your favorite logo among the other five finalists. 

5. The Barnstable Transfer Station is offering non-treated wood chips free to Barnstable residents while the pile lasts. The offer is for residents only, and not meant for commercial vehicles or businesses. The station is open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
