ALERT: Medicare Users Who Don't Take Regular Prescription Drugs

As I've posted elsewhere I am a big fan of the medicare.gov Medicare Plan Finder as the best source for Medicare Part C and Part D plan comparisons (as opposed to for-profit services that charge seniors a fee and as opposed to depending on individual insurance company web sites).

And I've written a few times about the advantages of and relative security of entering your drug list now -- even before annual enrollment begins -- and saving the Drug List ID and "passdate" for use during the enrollment period (which begins Tuesday October 15). And even for next year.

But there is one thing to keep in mind if you are one of the very rare but  lucky seniors that takes no regular prescription drugs. The Plan Finder does not work unless you enter at least one drug.  My suggestion is to enter a cheap generic like atenolol. But you could also guess that you might need an antibiotic once during the year and enter one of you choice (something your doctor has prescribed in the past, perhaps).

Anyways, Medicare Plan Finder is a great program. It just has a glitch to use a now popular word.
