ReplyLush, descriptive poem, Michael, and a cool story! Cannot wait for the bash. And don't forget, everyone, WEAR WHITE! That's a tradition in South Asia for Buddha's birthday.

ReplyLouisa, I imagine island cemeteries these days are a little bit like country clubs -- you need some social connections to get into them. But, oh man!, the Daniel Fisher House? Do you ever wish it were still in the family?

ReplyWere your grandparents Chilmark folk, Louisa? I understand a certain V.I.P. person to whom you and Michael and I are alluding had to use some pull (before she died, of course) to get herself buried in that cemetery.

ReplyThe water projected to wash over Squash Meadow and Sunset Lake means the Campground will also be flooded. That's sad to contemplate, like the centuries-long threat of Venice sinking.

ReplyRE the question "Do recently-divorced women normally get dumped by their social circles?", I have to say that in my own experience couples hang out with almost 100% other couples, so when one of those pairs splits up, they tend to get "adopted" individually. I've heard it said that married women close ranks against single women out of fear that the latter will attract their husbands' attention.

ReplyThank you, Louisa, for the plug, and I loved the way you tossed it off even as we went mano `a mano with our computers in a busy Winterside cafe stuffed with Congressman Keating and his entourage. All that was missing was a teacup pig!
