Police Investigate Two Armed Home Invasions

Yarmouth police are investigating two armed home invasions that occurred within an hour of each other Sunday night.

  The following was provided by the Yarmouth Police Department:  On Sunday, May 5, 2013 at approximately 10:57PM and again at 11:46PM members of the Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Force and Detective Division responded to two separate and believed to be related armed home invasions inSouth Yarmouth.   The fist one occurred on Howes Road and the second one occurred on Bryar Lane.  In both attacks—three masked men, each armed with handguns—entered the homes looking for known individuals with a history of involvement in illegal drugs.   During the second invasion one of the suspects fired a shot into the ceiling.   In both attacks no one was physically injured.   Suspects fled the area and despite the efforts of a massive search which …

Yarmouth Police Investigate 7th Heroin Overdose in 3 Weeks

Police and fire officials revived a 25-year-old male Wednesday afternoon after he suffered from an apparent heroin overdose.

Yarmouth police and fire officials were called to a home on Constance Ave. just after 1 p.m. Wednesday to help an unresponsive man, according to a press release. Once on the scene, Yarmouth officers began rescue breathing and airway management, while medics with the fire department used Narcan to revive the patient. Narcan is a medication that is sprayed into a patient’s nose during an overdose to block opioids and restore normal breathing. The rescue efforts were successful and the subject was taken to Cape Cod Hospital. This is the seventh drug related overdose in Yarmouth in the past three weeks. The Yarmouth Police Department and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the incident.

Yarmouth Police Investigate Alleged Stabbing

Members of the Hyannis Fire Department found a 46-year-old man Tuesday morning in Hyannis with a single stab wound to the abdomen.

  The victim told Yarmouth police he was attacked and stabbed by two unknown white males between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Route 28 in South Yarmouth, according to a press release. The victim went home after the attack and attempted to tend to the wound in his abdomen on his own. Several hours later the man attempted to walk from his Yarmouth home to the Barnstable District Court for a court date when he decided to seek help. Members of the Hyannis Fire Department found the victim near the airport rotary and took him to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment.   The incident is currently under investigation. Police Rescue Armed and Despondent Man at West Dennis Beach

Yarmouth and Dennis police rescued a 55-year-old Yarmouth man who was armed and despondent following a three-hour standoff.

  The Yarmouth Police Department contacted the Dennis police Thursday at 12:42 p.m. regarding a 55-year-old Yarmouth man who had threatened to harm himself and was believed to be at a south side beach in Dennis, according to a press release. Dennis Police Officers checked all south side beaches and found the subject’s vehicle at West Dennis Beach. Police Officers from Dennis and Yarmouth as well as Officers from the Yarmouth Department of Natural Resources began looking for the subject in the beach and jetty area. Rescuers found the man at the end of West Dennis Beach on the rock jetty. The subject was holding a pair of shears in his hand and threatened to harm himself with the shears if police came near him. South Yarmouth Level 3 Sex Offender Notice

Yarmouth Police announced a Level 3 sex offender has moved into the South Yarmouth community.

Peter B. Eldridge Sr., 54, a convicted level 3 sex offender was recently released to the community and is now living at 130 Cranberry Lane in South Yarmouth.  Eldridge is not currently wanted by the police.  Eldridge is 5’ 11" 200 lbs and has hazel eyes and brown hair.  He has been convicted of sex crimes on a child under 14 in 1990 and again in 2010.   Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 6, §§ 178C-178Q, the individual who appears on this notification has been designated as a Level 3 Sex Offender by the Sex Offender Registry Board. The Board has determined that this individual is at a high risk to reoffend and that the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial public safety interest is served by active community …

the guy who raped me only got 2 years and he has been out of jail for awhile and didnt register as a sex offender and he was assesed and he is a level three i had to move away from the state and my family because i didnt want to have the same thing happen to my daughter who is now 2 and no he isnt the father and its not fair that i cant be with my family because of fear that it will happen again …   more ›

Bear on the Run: Yarmouth Police Report Sightings

The Barnstable Bear has moved on to Yarmouthport according to sighting reports. It is traveling toward Dennis.

Today around 6:40 am the Yarmouth Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in South Yarmouth received several phone calls from citizens in Yarmouthport reporting the sighting of a large bear. Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers responded to the areas of the sightings which started in the Center Street area of Yarmouthport and continued eastward to the Route 6A area near the Bass River Rod and Gun Club and then the golf course area at Kings Way with the final report being in the marsh area of Bray Farm heading into the Town of Dennis.
