A sinkhole in a North St. Parking lot appeared behind Puritan Clothing Wednesday.
Barnstable officials inspected the four-foot sinkhole Wednesday afternoon, according to the Cape Cod Times. Crews used a jackhammer to stabilize the sinkhole, widening it to 12 to 14 feet and 10 feet deep. Crews turned off a nearby gas line as a precaution, filled the hole with sand, and blocked off the area. Water from a nearby drainage pipe could be to blame.
