Fire Destroys Hyannis Pool and Spa Business

A fire ripped through Swimming Pool and Spa Sales on Enterprise Road Sunday afternoon destroying much of the building that also houses two other businesses.

One employee was working at Swimming Pool and Spa Sales at 12 Enterprise Rd. Sunday when the fire broke out at about 3:58 p.m. The employee called for help and quickly got himself out of harms way. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation after having some trouble breathing. He did not have any other major injuries. Fire crews from the Hyannis, Barnstable, West Barnstable, Yarmouth, and Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills assisted in knocking down the blaze. Once the fire was under control crews noticed a chemical smell and milky water coming from the building and called a state hazmat team in to help. The hazmat team will look at the water run off and meet with the building’s owners to get an understanding of…

Arsonist Torches Four Hyannis Homes

Officials are investigating four house fires believed to be arson that were set early Saturday morning in a Hyannis neighborhood.

Hyannis fire officials were called to the Hyannis neighborhood after some early morning shoppers reported seeing smoke near Rt. 28 at 4:22 a.m. Saturday. First responders followed the smoke and found 45 Pilgrim Ln. on fire. Deputy Chief Dean Melanson said that while working to put out the blaze they began to have water issues with the fire hydrant so they began directing additional companies to enter near Baxter Road. “While we were in the process of setting up an additional water supply we found a fire at 33 Pilgrim Lane,” Melanson said. Members of the Barnstable Police Department then began to search the area and almost immediately found additional fires at 27 Pilgrim Ln. and 135 Baxter Rd. It took 30-40 firefighters from Hyannis, …

Strong First Week for the Daily Paper on Main

The Daily Paper on Main had a smooth first week after it’s opening Monday.

Owners, Aaron and Samantha Webb, opened their second location Monday in Hyannis. The Webb’s also own the Daily Paper on West Main St.  The Webb’s purchased Perry’s Main Street Deli from Perry Gaines who was ready for retirement after running the restaurant for 23 years. The new restaurant serves breakfast all day and lunch. Despite having opened only a few days ago the restaurant was running like a well-oiled machine Thursday when I stopped by to grab lunch. That may be in large part to the Webb’s decision to keep most of Perry’s staff. When asked how the first week had gone Aaron Webb simply gave the thumbs up. “It’s good to be here,” Webb said. The Daily Paper on Main St. is open Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday’s…
