Cape Cod Islanders Win Two in a Row

The Cape Cod Islanders were able to accomplish the goal of a two game sweep Saturday night, besting the Mass Mariners 5-2.

by Dan Hodge The Cape Cod Islanders took to home ice to see if they could do something they haven't done all year, win two in a row. The Islanders faced off against the Mass Mariners in the second game of their two game weekend. The Islanders took the first game Friday night 3-1. The Islanders were able to accomplish the goal of a two game sweep Saturday night, besting their foes 5-2. The Mariners came out strong and jumped ahead of a flat Islanders team 1-0 at 17:24 of the first period. Cape Cod's Colton Hart tied the game at 1 with just over six minutes left in the first period and the Isles never looked back. Gregor Lanziner, John Hannah, Jake Robertson and Centerville's Chris Harris all lit the lamp for the Islanders putting them ahead…

Cape Cod Islanders Defeat Mass Mariners 3-1

The Cape Cod Islanders skated their way to a 3-1 victory Friday night over the Mass Mariners. The game was high lighted by strong goal tending performances on both team’s.

by Dan Hodge Cape Cod's goalie, Victor Guttierrez made 15 saves on 16 shots earning the victory while the Mariner's net minder, Sami Ansio made 28 saves on 31 shots and took the loss.  The Islanders opened the scoring when Max Lurie found the back of the net at 2:10 of the first period. The Mariners tied the score at 13:58 on a nifty move by Mike Walsh. Victor Guttierrez kept the score knotted at 1 when he stoned Andrew Mathieu on a breakaway.  Nolan Thomas put the Islanders ahead for good at 9:56 of the second period when he split the Mariner defense on a nifty pass from Lurie and put the rebound of his shot behind Ansio.  Barnstable's Connor Fries added an empty net goal with 28 seconds left in the third to seal the victory for the home …

The National Weather Service predicts it will be sunny, with a high near 78. Southwest wind between 9 and 15 mph.  The International Junior Hockey League is unvieling its new jersey today! Stay tuned for the new jersey photos from HYCC. Visit the Mid-Cape Farmer's Market is at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center from 2 pm to 6 pm. The Barnstable Town Band will be playing at the Hyannis Village Green at 7 pm. Bring a blanket and get comfy. Polka Dan's Beet Box Band will be in concert at the Osterville Village Library from 6 to 7pm to wrap up the library's summer Concert on the Green evenings.
