Take a Tour of Cape Cod Beer

Cape Cod Beer offers free tours of its brewery twice a week.

You can tour Cape Cod's only microbrewery and learn how beer is made.  Cape Cod Beer tours are free and open to all ages. The tour takes about 45 minutes. To sample beer you must be 21 or over. There is also a gift shop on site carrying wide variety of locally produced goods. A tour is offered Saturdays at 1 p.m. and on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Cape Cod Beer started out in April 2004, brewing at the old Hyport Brewing Company at the west end of Main Street. The microbrewery moved to its current space in January 2006. Cape Cod Beer offers several year-round beers - a pale ale, an IPA, a golden ale - and several seasonal ones - a hefeweizen, a German ale, a brown porter, a dark wheat beer and winter and holiday ales.

4 Local Teens Start Hot Dog Truck

Four local teens jumped at the chance to be part of something totally new – running a hot dog truck at Cape Cod Beer, in a new venture called Cape Cod Dawgs.

Cape Cod Beer provided the following.  Finding a job at 14 can be troublesome: too old for campand too young to drive, plus all those work permit restrictions really whittle down the options. When faced with this dilemma, four local teens jumped at the chance to be part of something totally new – running a hot dog truck at Cape Cod Beer, in a new venture called Cape Cod Dawgs. The four boys: Dylan Chagnon, Jacob Dipilato, Jacob Marcus and Nate Pappalardo, are all 8th graders at Barnstable High School, and plan to share all the responsibilities of operating a Hot Dog Truck Business.  Given that none of the boys can drive (yet) the truck will be stationed outside of Cape Cod Beer, adjacent to the brewery’s new beer garden, and will be …

Biere de Mars: Cape Cod Artist Has Beer Named For Him

Joey Mars, a familiar face from Falmouth to Provincetown, to be a featured artist on the Cape Cod Beer label.

Joey Mars, known for his colorful aliens, rock and roll posters, and murals on the facade of Shop Therapy in Provincetown, is bringing his signature counter culture art to Cape Cod Beer. Cape Cod Beer is brewing a limited edition of Biere de Mars, a seasonal farm house ale from Northern France. The beer is related to the Belgian Saison style and will have "a really nice pronounced maltiness from the use of German aromatic malt, balanced by a sublte continental hop bitterness and noble hop aroma," according to CapeCodBeer.com Mars created the label art for the 750 ml bottle of beer named for him.  Biere de Mars will be released with a reception and art show on Monday, Feb. 11, at the brewery in Hyannis from 5 to 7pm.

Restaurant Review: Pizza Barbone

Sarah Colvin dishes on how to eat pizza and drink beer in style at Pizza Barbone with Cape Cod Beer.

By Sarah Colvin We’ve all heard of fancy dinners that include wine pairings – perhaps that perfect blend to accompany your foie gras, maybe a woody red perfectly paired with a perfectly cooked filet mignon…but when it comes to beer and pizza, usually we are left to our own devices, which for me normally includes nothing fancier than a six pack of Miller Lite and a pizza that comes piping hot from a cardboard box. That vision was certainly destroyed at last night’s Cape Cod Beer and Pizza Barbone dinner. Nary an aluminum can nor cardboard box was in sight – instead, attendees of the dinner were greeted at the door of the delightfully decorated Hyannis Main Street hot spot Pizza Barbone with a glass of Cape Cod Blonde and a fabulous …

I didn't attend the special dinner, but I've been to Pizza Barbone a number of times and love their food. They have an excellent vegan option. The owner and staff always make us feel welcome. Best pizza on the Cape.   more ›

Hyannis Brewery Urges Residents to Eat Local

Hurricane Sandy shut down most of Barnstable on Monday afternoon, with more than 60% of the town losing power at some point during the storm. Cape Cod Beer wants residents to help businesses make up for revenue lost during the storm by dining out.

Beth Marcus, Business Manager/Owner of Cape Cod Beer, knows firsthand how unexpected storms can impact revenue. Marcus took to Twitter Tuesday to urge local residents to support their favorite local restaurants this week. Marcus hopes to help Cape restaurants get a boost after the storm.  “In the end, most successful restaurant businesses out there have a budget and know that they have to bring in x amount each week to make their budget. So when you miss a couple days things get tight,” Marcus said. For Marcus, the reminder to urge residents to support local businesses year round is one that cannot be shared enough. “The money spent at local independent businesses, or locally based chains, is money well spent in our local economy. The …

Five Things You Need to Know Today: May 12, 2012

Garden dreams, baseball and beer

Saturday: Wake up sleepy head! Today will be a gorgeous day, according to the National Weather Service, with abundant sunshine and a high near 66. West wind between 10 and 13 mph. Tonight, not so bad, as it will be partly cloudy, with a low around 54. West wind between 11 and 13 mph. Word of the Day: Disingenuous - : lacking in candor; also : giving a false appearance of simple frankness : calculating. Want to shoot some baskets today on one of the nicest parquet basketball floors on Cape Cod or maybe play a little pick-up basketball? Well then head right over to the Hyannis Youth & Community Center in downtown Hyannis – the Barnstable Recreation Department has an “open gym” there from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Oh yeah, and speaking of …
