Playing in their last regular season game and perhaps their last game at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center this season, the Cape Cod Bluefins wanted to give the home crowd a lasting impression of their inaugural season in the Federal Hockey League. Apparently that meant showing the crowd of 400 plus spectators how tough they have become as before the first puck was even dropped, defenseman Steve Kelley dropped the gloves with Danville forward Chris Affinati. It was an evenly matched fight and after both players went to the penalty box it was time to play some hockey. At 1:16 the Bluefins got on the board first when team captain, Kevin McCready scored his team leading 25th goal of the season after taking a feed from AJ Tesoriero and Brad…

The first place New Jersey Outlaws made their second trip to Hyannis in as many weeks and they were cocked and loaded for their matchup against Cape Cod’s Bluefins. Having just acquired Jeff Winchester - one of the Federal Hockey League’s best players – from the 1000 Island Privateers, they were ready to show the Cape the reason for their place at the top of the standings. It didn’t take long for the visitors to light the lamp when, at 1:09 of the first period Trevor Karasiewicz one timed a pass from Dan McWhinney low to the stick side of Bluefin goalie Wes Vesprini to make it 1-0. At the 14:09 mark the Outlaws again found the back of the net. This time it was on the power play as Anthony Battaglia fired another low slapper which from the…

With a depleted squad due to several league issued suspensions, the Danbury Whalers came into the Hyannis Youth & Community Center looking to rebound after losing 3 of their last 4 games. The Bluefins, coming off a tough loss to the first place New Jersey Outlaws on Friday night, were looking to get their 3rd win in their last 4 games. The Bluefins were without standout defensemen Luke Frey, who sustained what may be a season ending foot injury in last night’s contest and Stephen Brown who has been out for several weeks with a broken foot. Injuries and suspensions aside this was guaranteed to be an excellent Federal Hockey League contest between the two arch rivals. The large crowd on hand included 100+ members of the Lower Cape Youth …

St. Pierre stops 29 shots in victory over Bluefins.
The Brooklyn Aviators defeated the Cape Cod Bluefins 3-1 on Saturday night at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center in Federal Hockey League action. Aviators’ net minder Jo St. Pierre picked up his second win, in as many nights, after stopping 29 of 30 Cape Cod shots. Jesse Felten put the Aviators on the board, 1-0, 4:24 into the first period on a beautiful play in front started by Lucas Schott and Chase Watson, who each picked up their fifth point in two games with the assists. Andrew Hutton quickly found the equalizer for the Bluefins 1:03 later after putting home a rebound past St. Pierre. Matt Atsoff would then give Brooklyn a 2-1 edge on is 11th marker of the year with 3:10 left to go in the opening frame. The red light did not go …

Having not lost a game in 2012, the hometown Bluefins took the ice at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center with a three game win streak and a chip on their shoulder. At the 6:24 mark of the first period they drew first blood when Brad Surdam deflected a Billy Tibbets pass past Brooklyn goalie, Richard Scarsella to give the Bluefins a 1-0 lead. The visiting Aviators outshot the Fins 15-11 but goalie Chris Testa kept them off the board and took his team into the locker room with the advantage after the first intermission. The teams battled through the second period with neither team scoring. It wasn’t until early in period 3 that Derek Scanlon fired a hard slap shot from the blue line that found it’s way through many bodies and into the …

Playing in their second home game in as many nights the home town Bluefins showed why Cape Codders are in need of a pro hockey team and why, if you haven’t come to see them, you need to! The first period began and seemingly before the Zamboni driver could shut the gate, the Warriors were on the board. Ahmed Mahfouz - just 15 seconds in - scored on Bluefin goalie Mike Ronan after a mis-step by the Bluefins defense allowed him to walk in clean and put his team up 1-0. Assists went to former NHL player Pierre Dagenais and Martin Beaulne. It was Dagenais’ 25th assist and league leading 57th point on the season. However, at the 3:07 mark the Bluefins’ Kevin McReady took a nice feed from Garrett Peters and fired it past Akwesasne goalie, David …

Similar to their previous matchup against the Delaware Federals and this time playing without their leading scorer Billy Tibbetts (Healthy Scratch), the Bluefins of Cape Cod came out strong against an inexperienced Federal League squad and again lit up the scoreboard to the tune of 12 to 1. It was the Fins second straight victory after dropping seven straight. Corey Bellamy paced the Bluefin attack with three goals and an assist and goalie Chris Testa made 20 saves to record his fifth win of the season. It was Bellamy’s first hat trick of his young professional career. The game featured several big hits and many odd man rushes. The Fins scored 4 goals in the first period , 6 in the second and 2 in the third. The Federals managed to score …

If Tuesday night’s game was any indication of how the new year will be in the Federal Hockey League, the Cape Cod Bluefins and the Danbury Whalers let us all know that this league is legit, exciting and very tough. David Lun paced the Bluefins with a goal and three assists and the hometown Fins scored four goals on eight shots to begin the game and several fights broke out between the two FHL rivals in a very heated contest. Brewster’s Andrew Hutton opened up the scoring at 3:31 of the first period. Hutton’s fifth goal of the season was followed by tallies from Derek Scanlon, Kevin McReady and new Bluefin, Brad Carlson and the Cape Cod boys held a 4-0 advantage after the first period. The period also featured a fight of gargantuan …
