D-Y Dolphins Swamp Red Raiders in Vacation Tilt

The well-tuned Dennis-Yarmouth boys basketball team (15-4) avenged an early season overtime loss to Barnstable this afternoon, devouring the visiting Red Raiders, 82-64. It was Barnstable's second straight loss and second straight to an ACL foe.

Last time, sophomore point guard LK Metz fouled out and the Red Raiders pounced on the chance. In late January, Barnstable defeated the visiting Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins in overtime after trailing for three quarters of play. This afternoon, Metz turned out likely his best all-around performance of the season and was joined by fellow Dolphin starters Jamarie Hall, Jim Tereau and Spencer Tyler in a dominating performance on both ends of the court and in particular, beneath the glass. Interestingly, it was this time, with Barnstable down by 12 points, that high scorer Jason Eddy fouled out with just 2:37 remaining. Eddy led both teams with 29 points on the night. The D-Y performance and the forced absence of Eddy late in the 4th quarter may …

Red Raiders Rally in 4th, Down Blue Knights, 59-39

On the heels of a tough road loss to Taunton last Saturday, the Barnstable High School boys basketball team (3-1) came roaring back against Sandwich in the fourth quarter to pull out the team's third victory of the season.

Never underestimate your opponent. It seemed that the Barnstable High Red Raider boys hoop squad may have done just a bit of that heading into last night's season home opener versus the Sandwich High Blue Knights (2-3), but thanks to a stellar fourth quarter by senior Manny Perry and some opportune late buckets from senior Jason Eddy, the Red & White pulled out a win, 59-39. But until the fourth quarter, it looked like the visiting Sandwich five had the upper hand. The Blue Knights led their hosts 11-8 after a meagre first quarter and held a 25-23 lead at the half. Barnstable pulled out a 38-37 edge after three frames, but in the fourth quarter the Red Raiders turned things up a notch as Perry scored eight of his 10 points late and those …

Red Raiders Heading to Super Bowl, Finish 11-0

The Barnstable High School football team (11-0) avenged last year's nailbiting loss to Lincoln-Sudbury (10-2), defeating the Warriors on the same field (Taunton High) by a 28-7 margin, thanks in large part to Hayden Murphy's 191 yards and 3 TDs.

How sweet it is. Barnstable High channeled its emotions and energy just right tonight at Taunton High School, as the Red & White virtually shut down the Lincoln-Sudbury Warriors (10-2) and took home a 28-7 victory and in so doing earned a trip to the EMass. Division 1A Super Bowl this Saturday (Dec. 1) at Gillette Stadium at 1:30 pm. Barnstable, ranked #1 in the state, will face #2 Everett High in a rematch of the two teams' earlier season slugfest, a game which set the Red Raiders on course for its best season since 1995. Barnstable's 11-0 record matches the 11-0 season of 1995, and it all happened on the precise same field: BHS defeated New Bedford at Taunton High in the 1995 Div. 1A Super Bowl, 11-0, to also finish a perfect 11-0. …

Red Raiders Handle Eagles with Relative Ease

The top-ranked Barnstable High football team (9-0) took care of business versus visitor Plymouth North (3-6) last night, defeating the Eagles, 52-12. The Red Raiders now have 13 days off till Turkey Day when archrival Falmouth comes to town.

The Plymouth North Blue Eagles scored first, but the host Barnstable Red Raiders returned that volley with 46 unanswered points in a 52-12 rout last night. The top-ranked Barnstable High squad got two touchdowns each from Tedaro France, James Burke and Justus Chaffee, while France (4 carries/108 yds.) and junior running back Hayden Murphy (11 carries, 124 yards) ran wild at a sparsely-attended W. Leo Shields Memorial Field. Virtually every Red Raider on the roster saw playing time last night as senior quarterback Nick Peabody (6-10, 102 yds., 3 TDs passing) led the Red & White in the first half to a 33-6 advantage, then gave the reins over to junior Kristian Lucashensky who went 4-8 in the air for 85 yards and a pair of touchdown passes. …

Red Raiders Beat Trojans, Crowned OCL Champions

For the first time since 1962, Barnstable High last night captured back-to-back football league championship titles as it defeated the host B-R Trojans in a nailbiting, 27-25, rollercoaster of a game.

Here comes the postseason. With two regular-season games still on the November slate, the top-ranked unbeaten Barnstable High School football team (8-0) defeated the host Bridgewater-Raynham Trojans, 27-25, and in so doing captured its second straight Old Colony League championship and secured a spot in the MIAA playoffs after Thanksgiving. With Lincoln-Sudbury's victory last night over archrival Acton-Boxborough, a win that ensured the Dual County League Large championship for the Warriors, it looks like Barnstable will once again face Lincoln-Sudbury in the playoffs in four weeks. Last year, the Red Raiders lost to L-S in the playoffs. Barnstable has not won back-to-back league titles since 1961 and 1962 under then head coach John "Jack…

Red Raiders Romp Over Billerica in Tight Contest

The Barnstable High School football team (7-0) retained its unbeaten mark this afternoon at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field in Hyannis with a 46-33 barnburner against guest Billerica High (2-6).

This one rattled some nerves. Still ranked atop the Eastern Mass. polls heading into this afternoon's home game versus first-time-ever opponent Billerica High School, the Barnstable Red Raiders seemed a bit rusty at times after a bye week, but thanks to some incredible defensive play by senior captains and linebackers Andrew Ellis and Ryan Litchman in the second half, victory for the home team was assured. With the score tied at 26-26 with 5:08 left in the third quarter, Barnstable found itself with its back against the wall and was forced to punt. Litchman lofted a 50-yard boot to put Billerica at its own 25. As the Indians started to make progress downfield, senior Dakota Perilli registered his first-career sack to bring up a key 3rd and…

France Paces Red Raiders to Victory

Tedaro France scored two touchdowns and had a game-ending interception to lead Barnstable (5-0) to a 19-14, hard-fought, well-earned victory over the New Bedford Whalers.

Thank goodness for Tedaro France. The senior Barnstable High wide receiver and defensive back staged a phenomenal performance last night, catching touchdown passes of 95 and 61 yards and had 167 yards receiving; on what turned out to be New Bedford's last offensive play of the game, he tacked on an interception. If not for France's stellar night, things might have turned out differently for the Red Raiders. As it stood, however, Barnstable maintained its unblemished record and top state ranking at 5-0 with a 19-14 finale over the visiting Whalers (2-3). Senior captain and quarterback Nick Peabody went 12-28 in the air and amassed 299 yards for three touchdowns with one interception. With starting offensive guard Billy Grimmer sidelined …

Red Raiders Welcome Whalers Friday Night at BHS

Top-ranked Barnstable High School football (4-0) welcomes the feisty New Bedford Whalers to W. Leo Shields Memorial Field Friday night at 6:00 pm.

Most if not all of the players on the Barnstable High School varsity football roster this fall weren't even born the last time the Red Raiders won their first four games of the season. It's been 17 years. Not since the vaunted 1995 season -- replete with a #1 ranking in Eastern Massachusetts and an 11-0 Super Bowl Championship -- have the Red Raiders fared so well on the gridiron. On the heels of a major upset over Everett High last week, the Red & White will seek to avenge last year's 31-17 loss to New Bedford, even though last year's loss proved to be a major turning point in the 2011 campaign. That's because then wide reciever now quarterabck Nick Peabody got his chance to shine once former quarterback D.J. Crook was sidelined with a …

Can Barnstable Defeat Football Giant Everett?

There are rumors there will be some 10,000 fans at Friday night's much-anticipated match-up between Barnstable and Division 1 powerhouse Everett High, but whatever the case may be this affair could very well be a precursor of this year's Super Bowl.

The Barnstable Red Raiders are riding high on the heels of three straight wins - all of them dominant behind senior captain and quarterback Nick Peabody. Behind Peabody, Barnstable is averaging 48.0 points per game and he's thrown just under 1,000 yards in just three games, as well as 14 touchdowns. Division 1 powerhouse Everett High School - a team that has not lost a home game since falling to St. John's Prep on September 17, 2008, has defeated public school opponents 36 consecutive times and won 9 of 13 Super Bowl appearances since 1994, failed to score 30 points last Friday night for the first time since 2010. Everett defeated St. John's Prep last Friday night, 19-7. The more unique statistic in that game was that Everett's defense …

Red Raiders Scrap It Out With Blue Knights for Win

In an early-season battle of a pair of local unbeaten teams, the high-scoring, potent offense of Barnstable (3-0) downed host Sandwich (2-1), 35-14, last night at the Sandwich Pop Warner Field.

When it comes to passing the football, there just aren't many better teams in the state than Barnstable High School's Red Raiders. Senior quarterback Nick Peabody landed himself in the Red Raider record books once again last night, throwing 29-42 for 402 yards, five touchdowns and just his first interception of the season to lead BHS to a 35-14 victory. Peabody's 29 completions was the second most ever in a single game by a Red Raider quarterback. His 398 yards passing marks the second highest yardage total in school history and he has 966 yards passing in just three games, averaging just shy of 321 yards per game. Senior wide receiver Dylan Morris caught just four passes -- three of those for touchdowns and a total of 77 yards, while …
