Coast Guard Rescues Fishing Boat off Nantucket

The Coast Guard rescued 8 crewmembers aboard a commercial fishing boat that caught fire 35 miles off the coast of Nantucket.

Crewmembers on the 88-foot commercial fishing boat Raiders radioed for help Monday at 8:40 a.m., according to a press release. The Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod sent a Jayhawk helicopter and 42-foot fast response boat to assist. Four women, a handy man, and a private island off the Western end of Nantucket.

As I’m gradually making my way through Elin Hilderbrand’s books, one thing is for certain.  Because her novels are set on Nantucket, her current home, the beautiful setting is almost always as integral a part of her books as the main characters are.  The Island is set on nearby Tuckernuck, the ultra-exclusive, privately owned island with no shops or restaurants to speak of.  In fact, the characters summering there need to give a grocery list to their caretaker, who goes back and forth from Nantucket.  While I probably will never see Tuckernuck’s light of day, Nantucket is definitely on my must-do list.  The Island revolves around four women, each harboring secrets and/or pain.  Chess has just cancelled her wedding to a guy deemed perfect …

Romney would be great for the richest among us. Great for people who supply the war machine. Great if you believe we should always be at war somewhere or other. Great for corporations who want to be free from any regulations that protect our very air and climate. Think!   more ›
