The Barnstable High School girls basketball team played its heart out but in the end proved to have fewer weapons last night than the visiting Wellesley High Raiders, and fell in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 South Sectionals.
Only a sophomore, Molly Bent may very well one day prove to be one of Barnstable's all-time best. But last night at Barnstable High School, individual milestones were overshadowed somewhat as Bent's Red Raiders fell to the visiting Wellesley High Raiders, 66-49, in round one of the MIAA Division 1 South Sectionals. Barnstable finished at 14-6 for the season. Bent scored 24 points on the night and netted her 1,000th career point from the foul line midway through the 4th quarter and she stood humbly and stoically as the crowd gave her a standing ovation. She is the only Red Raider in the 90-year history of Barnstable High School basketball to score 1,000 career points so early in her high school career. But the gifted shooting guard did …

Not since Barnstable girls varsity basketball's inception in 1928 has the school seen such a prolific, precocious point scorer in sophomore Molly Bent. Bent is poised to reach the 1,000-point plateau in the Red Raiders' first tournament game.
Talk about being under the radar. Sure, Barnstable High School girls basketball star Molly Bent is the state's leading scorer this season, averaging 27.32 points per game, but she's done so with little fanfare and with a displayed, humble sense of putting her team before personal achievement. When she reaches that mark, she will be the first Red Raider basketball player in school history to reach that milestone as a sophomore. It's a milestone usually reserved for seniors who've led a fantastic four-year career and only 10 Barnstable players - male …

Thanks in large part to the offensive prowess of freshman Molly Bent, the Red Raider girls basketball team is off and running to a 5-1 mark as well as a state-ranking.
It's not every day that someone sets an all-time record at Barnstable High School, in any sport. Particularly when the school was established in 1873 and its girls varsity basketball program began in 1928. Even more rare is when a sophomore sets a new all-time mark. But just five days before Christmas, that's precisely what the gifted third-year varsity guard Molly Bent did when she bucketed 41 of her team's 52 points against archrival New Bedford in a 52-46 victory at home. Bent's 41 points on December 20, 2012 eclipsed the previous all-time individual mark of 38 points scored in a single game, set on January 31, 1995 against Taunton by BHS Hall of Famer and former Division 1 Collegiate player Tania McIntyre (BHS Class of 1995 - North …
