From Bobby Orr to Osterville bigwigs, the Furry Affair helped the MSPCA raise critical funds.
The MSPCA-Angell’s “Furry Affair”---a night of celebrating animals and animal lovers on Cape Cod—took place the evening of Saturday, June 2 at the Wianno Club in Osterville, Mass. More than 200 animal lovers joined the party to raise funds for MSPCA-Centerville’s ongoing animal rehabilitation and adoption efforts on the Cape. The event featured numerous auctions and raffles and raised about $85,000, $25,000 resulting from a high-profile “bidding war” for golf with former Boston Bruins star Bobby Orr. Guests included a “who’s who” of the Cape’s business, culture and celebrity scene including: Bobby Orr; MSPCA-Angell President Carter Luke of Sandwich and his wife Penny; Marjorie and John McGraw of Osterville—who were honored along with …

As the hard-hit Cape Cod economy struggles to right itself after years of decline the number of families forced to surrender their pets to animal shelters has risen sharply. The MSPCA announced that as of the end of November it had already taken in 151 more dogs and cats than in all of 2010, virtually guaranteeing that 2011 will set an all-time record for animal surrenders on the Cape. The increase in animal surrenders has caused the MSPCA’s Centerville staff to work extra hard—and be twice as creative—to properly house and care for all of the animals for whom it ultimately hopes to find permanent homes. Even though recent data points to a tentative economic turnaround, the Cape’s reliance on tourism, restaurants and other forms of …

Consider adopting a Pet of the Week from the Centerville MSPCA.
Cami is a black Lab/Greyhound mix. She was brought to the adoption center because her owner had to move and wasn't able to take her. Even though she is 10 years old she has a lot of energy and loves to run. She is very friendly and loves everyone. She would do well in any home. She is looking for a family to love her forever. Contact the Centerville MSPCA for more info on adoption.

On Sunday, the MSPCA is hosting its 2011 Walk for Animals at Aselton Park.
The MSPCA 2011 Walk for Animals is not only for dogs, but also Cape animal lovers to come together as a community and support an organization that protects and helps animals. On Sunday, Sept. 11 the Centerville MSPCA is hosting the Walk for Animals at Aselton Park in Hyannis from 11 am to 2 pm. Whether she is walking or carrying her beloved Dachshunds, Phoebe Mossey will be participating in the Walk for Animals. Mossey, who started walking in 1997, has rescued several Dachshunds from the MSPCA shelter and is excited to walk with her dog Venice on Sunday. "Venice loves to participate," Mossey said. "He is a show-off." Venice won a blue ribbon at the event last year for a trick he does called "Pick Pocket" where he takes a dollar bill out …
