HyArts Cultural District Celebrated by Local Officals

Town Manager Tom Lynch was joined by Senator Dan Wolf, Representatives Randy Hunt and Cleon Turner, Massachusetts Cultural Council Program Manager Meri Jenkins, and Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Executive Director Kevin Howard.

The HyArts Cultural District and Kennedy Legacy Trail were celebrated during an event Tuesday afternoon.  The HyArts Cultural District was officially named on May 22nd, and the Kennedy Legacy trail debuted in Hyannis on May 29. Since then, the Trail has been enhanced by the addition of two large photos on the Pearl Street side of Sturgis Charter Public High School and by painted white "sails" on the sidewalks leading the way to each stop.  The HyArts Cultural District is the first state designated Cultural District on Cape Cod, and the sixth in the state.

Mary Richardson Kennedy's Body Exhumed, Moved in St. Xavier Cemetery

The new gravesite is across the cemetery where there is plenty of room for future burials.

Mary Richardson Kennedy's body was exhumed last week and moved to a new, larger grave site in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, says a report by the New York Daily News. Kennedy's body was originally laid to rest just outside of a circle of shrubs where Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Sargent Shriver are buried but was moved about 700 feet away to a larger section with room for relatives to be buried alongside her, according to the story. Gravedigger Frank Maki told the Daily News that Robert Kennedy wanted her moved to an area where the Kennedy family is now negotiating to buy 50 plots. “He (Robert) didn’t realize how crowded the area was until after the funeral, and he wanted to have the ability to lay his wife to rest among her family members,” …

Two Dead and One Injured in Car Accident on Property Once Owned by Jacqueline Kennedy

Judith Morse, of West Tisbury, and another woman were killed, while another sustained minor injuries in an accident this afternoon on the Kennedy property in Aquinnah

Kennedy properties always get a lot of attention. However, curiosity of three women about the Kennedy's Red Gate Farm estate in Aquinnah, Martha's Vineyard ended in tragedy. Two women were killed, and another injured in a car accident on the property yesterday afternoon. A preliminary investigation by State Police Sgt. Thomas Medeiros into the double motor vehicle fatality on the private property, where a third victim suffered minor injuries, indicates that Judith Morse, 70, of West Tisbury, was backing her 2000 Land Cruiser down a private driveway when she struck a tree. She then attempted to drive forward when the vehicle struck an electrical box, a porch attached to a garage, and then traveled up a hill striking a tree head on. …

This is a sad case that seems to bring about some questions. Much more goes into the investigation process during a car crash than simply speculation. Everyone should be aware that attorneys will inspect all areas of an accident. Many things go unnoticed without further investigation. Why is this being named after the Kennedy family? There are so many individuals who deserve recognition for their family contributions to this town. Not everything needs to be named after a Kennedy (unless the Kennedy family is actually contributing some money towards the project.)   more ›
