Colgate and Quinnipiac to Meet on the Ice in Hyannis

For the third year in a row the Hyannis Youth and community center will host Colgate and Quinnipiac hockey teams for the Cape Cod Collegiate Hockey Classic.

Hosting an event like the Cape Cod Collegiate Hockey Classic can be a big economic boost to the community center and surrounding businesses. The past two Cape Cod Classic match ups were sold out. “This event has become a beloved tradition for many Colgate alumni who live here on Cape Cod,” said Town Manager Tom Lynch in a press release. “We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to Quinnipiac University’s student athletes and alumni in this third Cape Cod Collegiate Classic.” No matter what the outcome of the game, it’s a great opportunity to see some top athletes. Advance tickets will be sold, $12 for adults and $8. Tickets at the door will be $15 for adults and $10 for children.

West Barnstable Coach Arrested for Indecent Assault and Battery

Barnstable Police arrested 41-year-old Scott C. Porter. Police say Porter assaulted a 15-year-old female last Thursday.

Porter is a basketball coach for a local AAU team, which is not affiliated with the Town of Barnstable’s Recreation Department. Porter was arraigned on two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 in Barnstable District Court Friday, September 28th.  Porter was released on bail, on the condition he not have contact with any child under the age of 16. The town’s attorney also formally advised Porter to stay away from the Hyannis Youth and Community Center and all schools.

Yarmouth Ice Club Cranberry Competition Winners

These ladies won the Intermediate Ladies Short Program Group 2 Finals at Hyannis Youth and Community Center.

These are the medal winners for the Yarmouth Ice Club Cranberry Open IJS Competition Intermediate Ladies Short Program Group 2 Finals. Each of these girls will advance to the Free Skate, taking place tomorrow at 9 am at Hyannis Youth and Community Center. Admission is free.

Scudder Cafe to Open at Hyannis Youth and Community Center

The opening of the new cafe run by the Casual Gourmet will be on September 22, the third birthday celebration of HYCC.

The Hyannis Youth & Community Center will celebrate its third year of operation by welcoming The Casual Gourmet as the new food concessionaire. On September 1st, The Casual Gourmet will bring its renowned food and service style and energy to serve the thousands of local, regional and international visitors frequenting the Center. “I am thrilled to welcome the Casual Gourmet as our new food service provider.  They have a number of successful locations throughout the region and have a wonderful reputation in the community.  I am looking forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship between the HYCC and the Casual Gourmet,” said the Hyannis Youth & Community Center’s General Manager, Joe Izzo.  The Casual Gourmet is a well-known …

Senator Scott Brown Makes Half-Court Shot at Hyannis Youth and Community Center

Senator Scott Brown visited Hyannis Youth and Community Center and sunk a half-court shot on the basketball court.

Senator Scott Brown has moves, basketball moves. He sunk a half-court shot at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center during his visit to Barnstable on Friday, according to MyFoxBoston.com. Brown toured the center and also met members of a third grade class of Barnstable Community Horace Mann Public Charter School, according to Cape Cod Today.

Last Chance: Internet Safety Class for Parents

On Wednesday, April 25 at 6 pm, Hyannis Supporting Our Youth will be along with the Barnstable Police Department are hosting an Internet Safety Workshop for Parents at Hyannis Youth and Community Center in the Shepley Room. The police officers will lead a workshop on keeping your child safe on the Internet.

Last Chance: Chill Zone HYCC Fundraisder

Get a drink and support the youth center by April 25.

Last week the Cumberland Farms on Route 132 sold more than 3,000 beverages totaling a $611 donation for the Hyannis Youth and Community Center in week one of the four week program. HYCC says a big "Thank you" to all of its friends who have stopped in to purchase your coffee, tea, fountain drinks and Chill Zone "slushies" at that location! The program runs until April 25th so we are hoping that the numbers continue to grow!  Here is a flyer that you can forward to those who might be interested.
