NWS Issues Blizzard Watch for Barnstable, A Potential Historic Winter Storm

One to two feet is expected, beginning Friday morning.

  The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch for Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket counties effective from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon.  According to the National Weather Service, Blizzard and Coastal Flood Watches will also be in effect Friday evening into Saturday afternoon. Hurricane force winds are possible for the Cape and Islands during the storm. 35 to 45 mph north winds are expected with gusts up to 70 mph along the southcoast. Light snow is expected to begin by Friday morning and increase in intensity throughout the day with the heaviest snowfall occurring Friday night into Saturday morning. Snow and High Wind Watch

The unexpected snow is predicted to turn to rain by 10 am.

The steady snow mix falling will change over to rain around 10 am, Weather.com predicts. It is in the mid-30s as of 8:30 am. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch and hazardous weather outlook. There is potential for strong damaging winds coming from the west from 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. Winds are expected to increase as we head later into the day. Winds are expected to pick up to the highest speeds tomorrow. The National Weather Service recommends staying inside and away from windows as a precautionary measure.
