Fourth of July Pool Safety Tips

The Consumer Product Safety Commission advises on how to protect your family if you're swimming in a pool on the 4th of July.

As the Independence Day holiday approaches and families enjoy time together in pools across the country, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is sharing some sobering statistics on the number of drownings during previous July 4th holidays. CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum is reminding parents and caregivers to pool safely during upcoming pool parties and celebrations with family and friends. “Along with fireworks, spending time in the pool is a traditional July 4th activity for many families,” Chairman Tenenbaum said. “Child drownings are a preventable tragedy, so we encourage all families who are planning to spend time in pools and spas over the Independence Day holiday and all summer to adopt as many safety steps as possible. …

Fourth of July Concert in Hyannis

Before the Fourth of July fireworks start and after the Hyannis parade, enjoy music on the Hyannis Village Green.

Immediately following the Hyannis Parade, the Barnstable Town Band will play a free concert on the Hyannis Village Green from 5:30 to 7 pm.    The Mike Dumas Band will perform a free concert on Aselton Park at 7 pm until dusk.   Tune into 95.1WXTK for a coordinated musical soundtrack during the show.

When and Where: Fourth of July Parade in Hyannis

The Hyannis Fourth of July activities includes boats, bikes and fun activities for the whole family.

The Hyannis Fourth of July parade is on July 4 starting at 4pm.  The parade is presented by the Town of Barnstable 4th of July Parade Committee and Hyannis Main Street.  This year’s parade features several bands including local high school marching bands, Berke McKelvey and his Oompah Band, Erik’s Steel Drum Band, the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, Sara Leketa & the Problematix, Jo & Co, Mike Dumas and Platform Soul and more.   Parade Grand Marshal is Kathleen Schatzberg, the recently retired Cape Cod Community College President.   Kids are welcome to join in with their decorated bikes and the Greater Hyannis Civic Association is sponsoring a contest for the best decoration. Fourth of July Festivities: Safety Tips to Avoid Fireworks Injuries

Protect yourself and your family against firework injuries during Fourth of July festivities.

The Fourth of July is drawing near and barbeque preparations are underway. Fireworks are a traditional part of Independence Day celebrations, but they can also be dangerous. Unfortunately, children and teens are too often hurt by fireworks. So, before the celebration begins, here are EyeSmart fireworks safety tips from the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Of the 9,000 fireworks-related injuries each year, 21 percent are eye injuries and more than half of the victims are young children or teenagers. For example: Even sparklers are dangerous. Sparklers typically burn at 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit and cause 27 percent of all fireworks injuries, including third-degree burns. Bottle rockets cause some of the most serious eye …

When and Where: Fourth of July Parade in Hyannisport

The Hyannisport Fourth of July parade is preceded by a road race on July 4.

The Hyannisport Fourth of July parade is on Wednesday, July 4 starting at 11am. The parade is presented by West Beach Club and features a road race at 9am. The parade will begin at the Hyannisport Post Office on Longwood Avenue; taking a left onto Washington Avenue; a right onto Lafayette Avenue; left onto Winchester Avenue; a left onto Scudder Avenue and continuing onto Dale Avenue to the West Beach Club, where it will end.   A Road Race starting at 9am at Hyannisport Post Office precedes the parade.

When and Where: Fourth of July Parade in Cotuit

The Cotuit Fourth of July Parade is on Wednesday, July 4.

The Cotuit Fourth of July Parade is on Wednesday, July 4 starting at 11am. The parade is presented by the Cotuit Civic Association.  The parade will begin at the Cotuit Post Office, proceeding down School Street to Main Street; taking a left on Main Street to the rear entrance of the Cotuit Elementary School, where it will end.

When and Where: Fourth of July Parade in Centerville

The Centerville Fourth of July parade is on Wednesday, July 4.

The Centerville Fourth of July parade is on Wednesday, July 4 starting at 10am. The parade is presented by Bay Lane PTA at Centerville Elementary School and Centerville Civic Association. The parade will form on the grounds of Centerville Elementary School and proceeds up Bay Lane, taking a right onto Bumps River Road; a left onto Park Avenue; a right onto Main Street and continues to the Centerville Recreation Building where it will end.

When and Where: Fourth of July Parade in Barnstable

The Barnstable-West Barnstable Fourth of July parade is on Wednesday, July 4 starting at 9am.

The Barnstable-West Barnstable Village Fourth of July parade starts at 9am on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. The Barnstable Village Civic Association put the event together with the West Barnstable Civic Association.  The Barnstable-West Barnstable commences at the County Complex on Railroad Avenue with an 8:30am gathering time. The parade proceeds down Main Street (Route 6A); left onto Mill Way and continue to the Village Hollow where it will end for various family activities.
