Dream Season Ends for Barnstable Red Raiders

In a match-up whose script seemed written by Hollywood, the top two teams in the state - Barnstable (11-1) and Everett (11-1) - pounded each other to the very end in the MIAA Div. 1A Super Bowl championship at Gillette Stadium this afternoon in Foxboro.

One loss by one point. For the 75 young souls who stood dumbfounded at the end of this afternoon's MIAA Div. 1A Super Bowl championship at Gillette Stadium - the 75 players of the top-ranked Barnstable High School Red Raiders - it seemed too much to swallow. It was a bitter pill to have realized it had just fallen to a team it had beaten earlier in the season, and the loss came when all the marbles were laid bare on the table, a 20-19 defeat that invoked tears and collective looks of disbelief. Number two-ranked Everett High simply outlasted the Red & White on this snowy, biting December afternoon, even in spite of one of the most punishing defensive efforts seen on a Barnstable football field in, perhaps, decades. Hundreds Flock to BHS Thanksgiving Day Parade

In the annual celebration of the 120-year-old Barnstable High School football program, as well as its salute to the school's 15-time volleyball state champions, hundreds of fans flocked to Main Street, Hyannis and the village green Wednesday afternoon.

Welcome to a "Sea of Red." Such was the premonitory speech delivered by 2nd year Barnstable High School head coach Chris Whidden Wednesday afternoon, as the BHS Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade culminated on the Hyannis Village Green, much to the delight of hundreds of fans, parents, players and alumni. The annual parade - begun in the 1940s as a salute to BHS football players who returned home as veterans from World War II - vanished from the local scene for three years before returning in 2007, with thanks to the school's football booster club, The Quarterback Club, founded in 1967. Centerville's Judy Lambert, whose son Mark Lambert is a senior wide receiver for the Red & White, chaired the club's parade committee and by all accounts it …

Red Raiders Handle Eagles with Relative Ease

The top-ranked Barnstable High football team (9-0) took care of business versus visitor Plymouth North (3-6) last night, defeating the Eagles, 52-12. The Red Raiders now have 13 days off till Turkey Day when archrival Falmouth comes to town.

The Plymouth North Blue Eagles scored first, but the host Barnstable Red Raiders returned that volley with 46 unanswered points in a 52-12 rout last night. The top-ranked Barnstable High squad got two touchdowns each from Tedaro France, James Burke and Justus Chaffee, while France (4 carries/108 yds.) and junior running back Hayden Murphy (11 carries, 124 yards) ran wild at a sparsely-attended W. Leo Shields Memorial Field. Virtually every Red Raider on the roster saw playing time last night as senior quarterback Nick Peabody (6-10, 102 yds., 3 TDs passing) led the Red & White in the first half to a 33-6 advantage, then gave the reins over to junior Kristian Lucashensky who went 4-8 in the air for 85 yards and a pair of touchdown passes. …
