Upton to Serve Two Life Sentences for 2009 Hyannis Murder

Robert Upton was sentenced to two life sentences, plus 15 years after he was found guilty Thursday of killing Aris Manoloules in 2009.

  Barnstable Superior Court Judge Gary Nickerson handed down the sentence this morning, according to the Cape Cod Times. Nickerson sentenced Upton,48, to a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole for the first degree murder conviction, a life sentence for armed assault inside a home and 15 years for aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Upton, of Newton, was accused of shooting Manoloules along with his nephew Christopher Manoloules in Hyannis in 2009. Robert Upton Found Guilty of First Degree Murder

A Barnstable Superior Court jury found Robert Upton guilty of killiing Aris Manoloules in 2009.

  Upton was accused of shooting Manoloules along with his nephew Christopher Manoloules in Hyannis in 2009, according to the Cape Cod Times. During the trial prosecutors argued Upton’s brother-in-law, Treefon Manoloules, agreed to pay him $165,000 to kill Aris Manoloules. Upton’s defense attorney claimed he was a victim of circumstance and that Christopher and Treefon Manoloules were responsible for the shooting. Treefon Manoloules was found not guilty of charges in connection with the killing in October 2011. Upton's sentencing is Friday. A first degree murder conviction would mean a sentence of life in prison without parole.
