A Man of Peace in a Country at War

A talk tonight at CCCC about building peace in the midst of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.

Archbishop Elias Chacour, leader of the ancient Melkite Catholic Church of Akko, Haifa, Nazareth, and All Galilee, is a three-time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, and winner of the World Methodist Peace Award, the Niwano Peace Prize, and was Rotary's Man of the Year in Israel in 2000.  Elias Chacour is a man with an obstinate and unquestionable will to fight for peace-real peace, the peace of the heart. Elias Chacour is a citizen of Israel; but since he is also and above all “a man born as a baby in the image of God” (as he likes to say), he is equally a Palestinian Arab who speaks in the name of his people and shares their concerns.  Chacour represents a living witness to this supposedly impossible co-existence in the Middle East, for …
