The Florida woman whose exuberantly patterned clothing designs defined coastal chic from Palm Beach to the Vineyard has died in, the New York Times is reporting. Lilly Pulitzer was 81, according to the Times. Begininng in the 1960s, when Jacqueline Kennedy was photographed in one of Pulitzer's sleeveless minidresses, and continuing well into the 70s, Pulitzer's colorful summerwear became wardrobe staples for seasonal Martha's Vineyard residents like actress Ruth Gordon, who took her daily strolls in Edgartown wearing "Lilly shifts" and chiffon hair bows. Mildred Chapman Webster, 89, died on December 9, 2012 at the Pavilion in Hyannis after a long illness. Millie was born in Malden, Massachusetts on February 11, 1923, the daughter of Mary K. Culleton and Vine Stoddard Chapman. Millie graduated from Malden High School in 1941. During the Second World War she enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a WAVE. In 1945 she married a Marine aviator and her son was born at the Chelsea Navy Hospital. After the war she attended Fisher Junior College. She was a secretary for many years at the General Electric offices in Boston, to the admissions director of the Mount Hermon School, to the head of the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in Concord, to the head of the Winsor School in Boston, …

The longtime Boston University president and political figure in Massachusetts passed away on Sept. 27, 2012.
John R. Silber, who served as president at Boston University for more than two decades and was an influential - and controversial - figure in Massachusetts politics, died on September 27 of kidney failure. He was 86. Dr. Silber is credited with bringing Boston University from a commuter school to new levels of academic excellence, and was nearly elected governor of Massachusetts in 1990, losing narrowly to Bill Weld. Silber began at Boston University in 1971, served as president until 1996, then as University chancellor until 2003. During his tenure at BU, Silber expanded the university's campus, recruited accomplished professors and faculty, and improved BU's reputation considerably. Sargent Shriver was laid to rest next to his wife in St. Francis Xavier cemetery on Pine Street.
Saturday night Sargent Shriver, a World War II Navy Veteran who conceptualized the Peace Corps, was peacefully laid to rest next to his wife of more than 50 years. Together, he and his wife Eunice Kennedy Shriver, are buried in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery on Pine Street in Centerville. The couple brought light and hope to so many people in this country and the world through programs like the Peace Corps and Special Olympics, but that is surely at a superficial glance. Shriver and his legacy intrigues and connects the people of Cape Cod.

Chief Farrenkopf, who died Monday night at the age of 82, gave 35 years of service to the Hyannis Fire Department.
Retired Hyannis Fire Chief Richard Farrenkopf, who died Monday night at the age of 82, will be remembered for his ability to inspire. Hyannis' Deputy Fire Chief Dean Melanson said Farrenkopf's hard work, dedication and vision for the future inspired four of his sons, and a lot of people, to follow in his footsteps - leaving behind a legacy that will not be forgotten. "He was dedicated and hardworking. People looked up to him and respected him for his dedication, work ethic, care and concern," Melanson said. Farrenkopf dedicated 35 years of his life to the Hyannis Fire Department. He started as a firefighter in 1955 and worked his way up through the ranks to be appointed full-time chief in 1981.
