Weekend Agenda: Cruise Night, Artist Reception and Free Fun Fridays

Here's a quick look at some of the things happening in Barnstable and Hyannis this weekend.

Free Fun Fridays at the Edward Gorey House
Free Fun Fridays, the annual summer program that opens the doors to some of Massachusetts’ best cultural venues at no cost to visitors.
The Highland Street Foundation’s Free Fun Fridays program will offer free admission to the Edward Gorey House on Friday, August 16, 2013.

Cape Cod Cares 4 Troops Cruise Night
The 16th cruise night to benefit Cape Cod Cares for Troops, sponsored by the Hyannis Elks and Ziggy's Auto. The first 50 participants will receive prizes.
There will be barbeque, raffle tickets, treats, bracelets for sale and a DJ.
The car show will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16, at the Hyannis Elks Lodge on Bearses Way.

Artist reception at Guyer Barn
All are invited to an artist reception from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, to celebrate the opening of J. Marie Manco's solo show at the Guyer Barn, 250 South St., Hyannis.
Manco has created a collection of oil paintings that embodies a " Sense of Place." She paints local landscapes using a colorists palette and a thick application of medium. Her work reflects her love for the Cape and a nod toward the traditions of the Provincetown artists.
The show will be open through the month of August.

Afternoons at the Atwood Sunday lecture
The popular Sunday lecture series, “Afternoons at the Atwood”, continues at 2 p.m., Aug. 18 with a talk by Tim Smith. Smith will be speaking about Dunbar, his innovative designs for tandem centerboard cruising boats, and the importance of his relationship with J. Seward Johnson who commissioned two of Dunbar’s most significant boats, Sea Goose and Ocean Pearl.
Admission to the lecture is free; donations are always welcome. More info: http://www.chathamhistoricalsociety.org/
