Barnstable Runners Taking on the Boston Marathon: Hilary V. Greene

Profiles of Barnstable residents running the 2012 Boston Marathon.

On April 16, 2012, tens of thousands of runners will line up to run the 116th Boston Marathon. Of those thousands, there will be people running from all over the world. Some will run for charity, some for the memory of others, some to beat their own record, some just because they want to see if they can.

Among those runners will most surely be Barnstable residents. We will be profiling Barnstable residents leading up to the race - letting you know who is running, why they’re running and how you can keep track and cheer them on.

Reason for running: I am running to highlight how important the Red Cross is to our community. The Red Cross has been manning the aid stations at the Marathon for over 30 years and this is our first Team Red Cross. Also, I run to highlight organ donation as i donated a lobe of my lung to a woman in 2004. i am a volunteer for the New England Organ Bank and doing this helps show you can help someone and still live a good life!

Training tip: I am doing a run/walk system taking one minute walking breaks to make it more bearable!

Qualified runner or charity bib: Charity Bib - Donate on the Red Cross Website http://www.capecodandislandsredcross.org/
