This site is dead what with all of the imported stories and tabloid stories for the unwashed.
New York Patriot February 11, 2014 at 11:45 AM
New owner, private equity firm Hale, has a flawed vision for Patch. Clearly, the see more regional and national "content" generated by fewer bodies with the result being far less hyper-local content. What they don't get is that the Patch is ONLY an online destination for people who seek hyper-local content. The way to correct for that is to allow more home-page real estate for local residents who comment and blog and post to boards. If you want to find out what "really" happened at a board meeting, ask the people, not the Patch employee who is not tuned in to the local politics and just needs to slap a story up so they can put ads around it. Oh...and if I want weather, I'll go to WeatherChannel.com.
CowDung February 11, 2014 at 12:14 PM
I dunno, Patriot. It seems that Patch already had a flawed vision for Patch..... The Patch 2.0 makeover was (and still is) a disaster...... They have been pushing non-local content for months now, and that content seems to be stuff that few people actually want--maps of where divorced men are living, articles about what is being offered for sale on Craig's list, articles about YouTube videos, etc, Editorial/Opinion pieces pretending to be news..... Really, how much worse can Hale's vision be for Patch?
New York Patriot February 11, 2014 at 12:27 PM
Agreed. From bad to worse. I give it 12 months before Hale decides to take Patch out to the barn and shoot it.
FedUpRealist February 11, 2014 at 02:09 PM
All the libs should be jumping for joy...Why, a 'liitle guy' business is upsetting an evil, rich people corporation....Uninformed voters, occupy wall-streeters, dumbercrats love this s#%t!!!
Larry S February 11, 2014 at 02:10 PM
I would suggest that the next progression in "dumb" parodies might be "dumb" Congress, but I think we already have that!
J D C February 11, 2014 at 02:25 PM
DUMBObama. Oh yeah we already have it, sorry.
Sterling February 11, 2014 at 02:35 PM
They're ripping Patch off. Dumb journalism was your idea. You guys should sue.

The Starbuck Quality must be paid. The quality of Starbuck is the result of Starbucks intelligence. It may not be called as 'Dump'. The Starbuck want to show this Quality to people, who didn't try yet Starbuck Coffee. Best Regards - Germany
Maria Houser Conzemius February 11, 2014 at 03:48 PM
Starbucks is a quality organization. That's why it upsets me so much that we have a fake Starbucks right here in Iowa City, Iowa, at the First Avenue, Iowa City Hy-Vee in the so-called "Athens" of the Midwest, home of the Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa. Hy-Vee employees, many of whom work part-time and are denied health insurance benefits, dress in real Starbucks hats and aprons, have a "Starbucks" sign above their in-store shop, sell Starbucks coffees but get paid less than real Starbucks employees do and get few or no benefits. I am shocked that Starbucks would allow fake Starbucks to exist under their logo and their auspices.
CowDung February 11, 2014 at 03:52 PM
Starbucks is #10 on the "10 Companies paying the least" list... http://247wallst.com/special-report/2013/11/15/ten-companies-paying-americans-the-least/2/

Anyone who thinks that The Patch is/was liberal is a flaming fascist. This defines the screwed up spectrum left to us by once and future RAYGUNites. AOL is perhaps as GOP oriented as any media location. The CEO is a phony complainer about insurance as his downfall. His downfall was investing $300 million in a harebrained attempt to be a local newspaper.
OC4EVER February 11, 2014 at 05:27 PM
If I wanted national news I would go to nj.com. thought this was for local news?
Ben Messina February 11, 2014 at 08:07 PM
Farewell, Patch. I'll check back in a few months and see if I can get a strictly local to me feed again.
FaceOnMars February 11, 2014 at 08:13 PM
So righties, when you order your lunch, do you still request "freedom fries"?
wtfdrez February 11, 2014 at 10:32 PM
What happened to Paul Petrone and the good old days of the patch, when you could voice your political opinion and have fun with the back and forth, who cares about this article I only clicked on to read the 65 comments. It was a big mistake to change the format of the Patch. It's the Waterford Times on downers. You can't even get local sports, the south end of waterford and the north end combined to make one little league according to my great nephew, that's been 50+ years in the making, that's cool, write about local sports news. Agreed, If I want the weather forecast I'll go to the Weather channel. btw the forecast for the Patch is gloomy.
stanley seigler February 12, 2014 at 12:45 AM
dumber and dumber folks hang out at at S-bucks...it would be ironic/poetic justice if pseudo sophisticated S-bucks went down the toilet with PATCH (hale-capitalists)...wonder if today's pseudo sophistic (yesterday's yuppie) would be welcome at macdonalds.... ........................................................................................ PS hope advertisers get IT: PATCH is not local...doesn't appeal to locals....
Holly girl February 12, 2014 at 01:50 AM
Where oh where has our local Patch gone?? I want to know about what's happening in San Carlos.
Rich Pope February 12, 2014 at 01:55 AM
I miss the old Patch where we could read local stuff, blow-off steam, make new friends and basically just enjoy what's going on in O'Fallon.
Igor February 12, 2014 at 07:47 AM
I reason I read the patch is to read stupid remarks like the ones made by Stanley Seigler. Just because he disagrees with someone, that makes them stupid? I'm not a big Starbucks fan either, but I don't consider people stupid because they do. SDeems like he's really stuck on himself.
stanley seigler February 12, 2014 at 10:45 AM
the ONLY reason i read PATCH is to be enlighten by the brilliant comments (aka personal attacks) from good folks like igor...S-buck folks are not stupid... just, in some instances, pseudo sophistics...ohand i dont think people are stupid...well except for GOPs...just kidding folks...some of my best friends are GOPs...
Vincent February 12, 2014 at 12:54 PM
Dumb Starbucks!! With 72 posts to this story just who is dumb?
stanley seigler February 12, 2014 at 01:47 PM
mirror, mirror on the wall who's the dumbest of all??
Confederate American February 12, 2014 at 05:50 PM
I wonder if I can carry my pistol in the dumb Starbucks.
New York Patriot February 12, 2014 at 07:01 PM
Patch keeps deleting my comment. CENSORSHIP!! So, my only comment now is that Patch CENSORS users. Not a good survival technique out on the net.
Winnetka February 13, 2014 at 02:17 AM
Well you all know EVERY PATCH...needs a good shave once in awhile.
CowDung February 13, 2014 at 09:56 AM
Patch routinely allows content that is contrary to what is permissible according to their Terms of Service statement. Their selective enforcement provides the appearance of censorship. Not sure I blame NYP for being upset about his comments going away. It would be nice if the editor that removes the comments would leave a post that states the reasoning behind the removal.
