Mass. Maritime Bucs Give Corradi 550+ wins, Sweep Rivier

In spite of the bitter, gray climate, the Bucs caught on fire today at Commodore Hendy Field, sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Rivier College (NH).

The imposing sophomore righty Kyle Kennedy (Woodbury, CT) fanned five and needed just 75 pitches to pick up his first win of 2014: a three-hit, 1-0 shutout. Freshman third baseman Terrence Mudie (Barnstable, MA) scored the lone and winning run in the back end of the Sunday afternoon twinbill when he was plated on a sac fly by senior co-captain Brendan O'Kane (Pocasset, MA) in the bottom of the third inning.

O'Kane, Aidan Desrosiers (North Attleboro, MA), Mudie and junior shortstop Bobby Rosano (Reading, MA) each collected hits in the 1-0 victory. The win put the Bucs at 5-4 on the season heading into this Wednesday's non-league match-up versus the Jumbos of Tufts.

In the doubleheader opener, Zach Cooney (East Bridgewater, MA) got the win in relief, his third of the season (3-0), as he struck out two and allowed no runs in the Bucs' 11-4 victory. Mass. Maritime received 11 hits in all in the opener, including six from Desrosiers and sophomore Everett Walsh (Marstons Mills, MA). The pair also picked up five RBI. Both went 3-3 on the day.

In an extra-inning gem on Saturday (March 22, 2014), Mass. Maritime gave head coach Bob Corradi his 550th career victory by defeating Johnson & Wales, 3-2 on the back end of a doubleheader on the road.

Marshfield's Kevin Kwedor, a southpaw who transferred from Southern New Hampshire University and a former Marshfield Post 88 American Legion all-star, picked up his first collegiate victory for Corradi's milestone. He went the distance and struck out eight batters while allowing only five hits in the auspicious debut.

Senior outfielder Bobby Lee (Braintree, MA) brought home fellow senior Keith Sanchez (Monroe Township, NJ) on a picture-perfect suicide squeeze in the top of the 8th inning for the winning run.
