Holzman, Sophomores Give Red Raiders Much-Needed Boost

Success, it seems, can be built upon.

The imposing Barnstable sophomore right-hander Eric Holzman - who got his first taste of top high school-aged competition last summer for state champion Barnstable Post 206 - arguably turned in his best career performance Wednesday afternoon as the Red Raiders blanked the visiting Dartmouth Indians, 4-0. Holzman went the distance, tossing seven multi-efficient innings and allowed just three hits along the way. He walked one and struck out none, but it mattered little as Holzman staged a veritable clinic of efficiency.

He used just 78 pitches to complete his gem and in so doing breathed life back into a stalled Red Raider squad that now stands at 5-3.

Senior first baseman Chris Fowler provided Holzman with all he would need with a two-out RBI-single in the first inning. Fowler went 2-3 with one RBI and a triple on the day.

Sophomore Griffin Burke also went 2-3 and collected two RBI when he provided Holzman with the insurance he needed to continue pumping in strike after strike against the aggressive-swinging Dartmouth nine. Burke plated a much-needed pair in the bottom of the fifth with one out after Micah Gregory led off the inning with a double, Hayden Murphy walked, Derek Estes singled in Gregory and then Burke singled in both Murphy and Estes.

The Red Raiders take on top-ranked Bridgewater-Raynham tomorrow, Thursday, at 4:00 pm on the road.
