Distracted Driving Simulator Arrives at Barnstable High

O'Brien's Centerville Insurance Agency brought the Distractology 101 tour to Barnstable this week.

Young drivers at Barnstable High School will get a hands-on lesson in the dangers of distracted driving this week.

Distractology 101 is an interactive program developed by the Arbella Insurance Foundation that features a 36-foot-long, neon-yellow mobile classroom outfitted with high-tech driving simulators designed.

The program, which will be at BHS from Oct. 15 to 18, was brought to Barnstable by O’Brien’s Centerville Insurance Agency.

“We’re a 3rd generation family and community-based independent insurance agency and with three generations of O’Briens graduating from Barnstable High School we knew this was the event to host,” said Steve O’Brien Jr.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates more than 3,000 people are killed each year in crashes involving a distracted driver and an additional 416,000 are injured in crashes involving a distracted driver.

“The program’s mission is simple: to educate young drivers on the dangers of distracted driving and ultimately save the lives of teens living in communities such as Barnstable," said Steve O’Brien Jr. "Research suggests that this type of real life stimulation and education can truly help to change dangerous behavior and we at O’Brien’s Centerville Insurance are proud to support this important mission.”
