Town Council Candidate Pleads Not Guilty to Attacking Man With Metal Bat

A Barnstable town council candidate pleaded not guilty Monday for allegedly attacking his ex-wife's boyfriend with a bat over the weekend, according to a Cape Cod Times report.

Police responded to the area of Old Colony Road and Cooks Circle around 10:52 p.m. on Sunday after receiving a report of a man and woman screaming, according to the report. When they arrived, witnesses said group of adults were found fighting outside a residence.

Barnstable Police Sgt. Sean Sweeney told the Cape Cod Times that he believed Timothy Ferreira, a candidate for Barnstable Town Council, had arrived at the house and engaged in a fight with his ex-wife's boyfriend, hitting the 36-year-old victim with a metal bat.

Ferreira told police he and the victim did fight, but that he did not hit the victim with a bat, according to the report. Ferreira pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in Barnstable District Court Monday; he told the Cape Cod Times he believes he will be "exonerated" and plans to continue his campaign for Town Council.
