State Gives Local Council Charge of Growing Business

Cape Cod Economic Development Council Inc. received status as a Regional Economic Development Organization from the state and will work to manage grants to grow employment and entrepreneurs.

Today the Cape Cod Chamber's sister corporation, Cape Cod Economic Development Council Inc., received approval for status as a Regional Economic Development Organization (REDO) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the fiscal year 2012. This follows on a long tradition of managing grants and working closely with the Massachusetts Office of Business Development.

The CCEDC Inc. REDO covers Cape Cod and the Islands, and works with key partners in the region.  Along with this designation, the CCEDC Inc. will receive an $80,000 grant to support the mission of growing employment and entrepreneurs.

“We are honored to continue our role as the state’s ‘boots on the ground’ to implement economic development initiatives,” stated Wendy Northcross, Cape Cod Chamber CEO.  “Funding will help us continue programs aimed at retaining and attracting young families, brand the region as a great place for entrepreneurs while supporting export-oriented clusters, and give technical assistance to new and existing companies.”

The REDO grant specifically will support the popular Entrepreneurs’ Weekend, ongoing Coastal Community Capital programs (including their fall/winter workshop series for businesses), conduct analysis on high return businesses that would fit in the region, and continue the SmarterCape Partnership, which is focused on increasing the innovation economy in the advent of OpenCape broadband construction.  Also supported is the Entrepreneurial Resource System that combines the talents of REDO partners to assist larger employer companies to grow in the region.

The partners in the Cape & Islands REDO includes other regional entities, such as the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, Barnstable County, Cape Cod Commission, Cape Tech Council, Coastal Community Capital, MSBDC, OpenCape, Cape Cod Community College, Workforce Investment Board and others.
