Weymouth Man Arrested for Distributing Bath Salts in Hyannis

An employee at the The Corner Food Mart in Hyannis was arrested for possession of a Class C substance (bath salts) with intent to distribute.

A Weymouth resident and employee at The Corner Food Mart, 640 Main Street, Hyannis, was arrested on Monday, Nov. 11, for allegedly selling bath salts out of the convenience store.

Muhammad A. Abid, 34, was charged with Possession of a Class C Substance (Bath Salts) with Intent to Distribute, according to the Barnstable Police Department. Bath salts, a number of synthetic drugs known to cause hallucinations, were categorized into the Class C schedule of drugs in January 2013.

Prior to the arrest, Barnstable Police Detective Brian Guiney was conducting an investigation into the sale of bath salts from The Corner Food Mart, which included several controlled purchases from Abid.

On Monday, a search warrant was executed on the convenience store. Six glass vials, which matched the containers that were purchased by officers and confirmed to have contained bath salts, were located in the back office. Money used in the investigation was also found during the search.

The vials of bath salts found at The Corner Food Mart usually sell for $25, according to police.

Abid was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Tuesday.
