West Barnstable Home Damaged in Tuesday Morning Fire

A West Barnstable home sustained about $75,000 in damage Tuesday morning when "fume-filled rags" in the basement spontaneously combusted, the Cape Cod Times reported.

The owner of 187 Kettle Hole Road smelled smoke and escaped the home safely. The basement was completely destroyed and the home sustained severe fire damage.

The West Barnstable Fire Department called in help from surrounding departments including Barnstable, Sandwich, Hyannis, Eastham, Chatham and the Massachusetts Military Reservation due to the overwhelming smoke, dry weather and lack of hydrants in the area.
