Police Searching For Body in Mashpee Pond

Dive teams are searching Ashumet Pond for the body of a man after witnesses' reports of a drowning, the Cape Cod Times reported.

Mashpee Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Rullo told the Times that witnesses said they saw a man without a life jacket drown in the pond around 5:03 p.m.

At about 6:30 p.m., teams from Falmouth, Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills and Cotuit fire departments were diving in specific areas looking for the drowned man, according to the Times.

This summer, four people have been found dead in public bodies of water.

On Thursday, a former Secret Service agent and author was found dead at East Sandwich Beach. On Tuesday, an unidentified man was found dead in a pond behind the Cape Cod Mall.

Additionally, a Centerville man appeared to have suffered a heart attack and was found on Sandy Neck Beach on July 13, and a South Yarmouth man was found in Flax Pond on July 2.
