Police Protect DeSalvo Grave After Boston Strangler News

Written by Liz Taurasi. Owen Boss and Roberto Scalese contributed to this report.

Peabody police shut down Puritan Lawn Memorial Park cemetery, following the announcement officials will exhume the body of suspected Boston Strangler Albert DeSalvo. The announcement came on the heels of a technological breakthrough, allowing investigators to identify DeSalvo as the killer of Mary Sullivan, the last murder in the string of 1960s killings.

The cemetery was closed to the public just past noon Thursday with Peabody Police blocking the entrance. There was heavy media presence at the cemetery with helicopters circling overhead and news trucks at the front entrance.
