Osterville Man Didn't Realize He was Shot in Assault

A Sandwich man was charged with attempted murder.

Barnstable Police responded to an assault report in Osterville early Oct. 11. An arrest was eventually made and doctors later reported the victim wasn't just beaten, he was shot in the back of the head.

Jeffrey Lasher, 44, was covered in blood when police arrived at his Osterville home late Thursday night, according to a press release from the Barnstable Police Department. Lasher said he was assaulted by Buddy Wayne Bothwell, an acquaintance who came over to watch football.

The victim was taken to Cape Cod Hospital, where doctors determined he had been shot in the back of the head. The bullet fractured Lasher's skull and was lodged in his spine.

An alert was put out for Bothwell, who was spotted in Lasher's estranged wife's vehicle, traveling in Sandwich toward Barnstable on Route 6A.

Bothwell was pulled over, where he was found in possession of a .380 cal handgun.

Bothwell was charged with  A&B by a dangerous weapon to wit hand gun, attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and operating with a suspended license.
