Further Downsizing Wanted for New Hyannis Fire Station

The planning committee for Hyannis' new fire station hope to further downsize the the proposed floor plan and dramatically cut down its cost, according to the Barnstable Patriot.

With tax-payer dollars in mind, the committee hopes builders can eliminate one of the building's proposed stories, reduce unneeded space and relocate storage areas. Others, however, feel that the plans have already been stretched too thin.

Originally priced at $25 million, the controversial fire station's cost was later reduced to $18 million in early July.

Officials look to put the new fire station in the the former car dealership on North Street or the former location of Mid-Cape Home Centers on Bearse’s Way.

The committee will reconvene on Aug. 12 to hear public commentary on the matter.
