FBI Crime Report: Violent Offenses Down in 2012

The FBI's Uniform Crime Report was recently released.

There were 283 violent crimes in Barnstable in 2012, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's annual Uniform Crime Report. The statistic is a slight dip from the 303 violent crimes in 2011.

The Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies.

The 2012 violent crimes include 231 aggravated assaults, 29 robberies, 22 forcible rapes and one non-negligent manslaughter case. In 2011, the violent crimes included 242 aggravated assaults, 32 robberies, 28 forcible rapes and one non-negligent manslaughter case.

The report breaks down crimes into several other categories. There were 1,269 property crimes in Barnstable in 2012. There were also 378 burglaries, 847 thefts, 10 arsons and 44 vehicle thefts.
