Drunken Driver Caused Wrong Way Crash on Sagamore Bridge

A Provincetown woman was drunk and on drugs when she crashed her SUV into a truck carrying two children on the Sagamore Bridge Sunday night.

A Provincetown woman was drunk and on drugs when she drove the wrong way on the Sagamore Bridge and crashed into an SUV carrying four people, including two children Sunday night.

Dorothy R. Hitchcock, 25, faces charges of OUI liquor and drugs and more in the crash, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Police say Hitchcock was driving a 2013 GMC SUV the wrong way eastbound on Route 6 around 11:15 p.m., Aug. 4, when she smashed into a 2012 Buick SUV driven by Carmen Whalen, 48, of Williamstown.

Whalen and her three passengers, Janice Loux of Williamstown and Whalen’s two young children were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.

Hitchcock was taken to Jordan Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash shut down the bridge for two hours while police investigated the crash and Bourne EMS worked on the victims.

Hitchcock will be summonsed to Falmouth District Court when the investigation is complete to face charges of OUI liquor and drugs, possession of a class B drugs, two counts of possession of class E drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, violating marked lanes, and violating seat belt laws.
