Barnstable Police Investigate Swastika Graffiti

Cape Cod Synagogue, All Cape Auto Sales, Extreme Audio Cape Cod and a rest stop were vandalized with backward swastikas.

Cape Cod Synagogue in Hyannis as well as two businesses and a highway rest area were struck by vandals that spray-painted backward swastikas late last week.

A backward swastika was painted on the synagogue sign, while swastikas and marijuana-related images were painted on All Cape Auto Sales and Extreme Audio Cape Cod, according to the Boston Herald.

Similar images were found at a rest stop between exit 6 and 7 on Route 6.

The Anti-Defamation League New England Region condemned the graffiti at Cape Cod Synagogue  on its website. ADL Regional Director Robert Trestan released the follow statement:

"This attack on the Cape Cod Synagogue and community is a disturbing reminder that hatred against Jews remains strong. Attacks on places of worship are intended to intimidate community members and it is therefore critical to remain united in opposing all forms of hate and bigotry."

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to contact the Barnstable Police Department at 508-775-0387.
