The Barnstable Municipal Airport along with the Hyannis Fire Department will stage a full-scale emergency drill at the airport Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., according to a press release.
The drill will simulate a plane crash carrying 34 passengers and three crewmembers, as well as a resulting fire. Airport Manager Roland “Bud” Breault says the drill will be very realistic looking with fire trucks, police cars and even a helicopter.
The Federal Aviation Administration requires airports to conduct the training every three years to provide hands-on training for airport, airline and emergency staff.
Access to the airport will be restricted at the scene, which will be staged on the far end of the airport’s east ramp near Mary Dunn Way off Route 28.
A call will go out to nearby residents and businesses informing them of the drill.
