Alleged Illegal Immigrant Detained, Suspected of Dealing Cocaine

Barnstable Police and Homeland Security ICE agents arrested an alleged illegal immigrant accused of distributing cocaine and receiving stolen property on Tuesday, according to Barnstable Police.

Barnstable Police also arrested a second resident who was allegedly deported back to Brazil and is suspected of reentering the US illegally a second time, police said.

Police obtained a warrant after an investigation by BPD Detective Daniel Turner. Turner learned Thiago M. Depaula was living at 43 Spring St., Hyannis as a suspected illegal immigrant with possible charges pending in Brazil. Depaula was also suspected of involvement in distribution of narcotics from his Spring Street home. In addition to these charges, police also learned a stolen iPad may be in the residence, police said. 

 At approximately 6:45 pm on Tuesday, BPD Detectives led by Detective Lieutenant Sean Balcom and ICE agents executed the search warrant and located Depaula and Claudinei Paula De Souza, 36, who was suspected of reentering the US, police said. 

Police found two grams of cocaine, a digital scale, narcotics packaging material and approximately $2,574.00 cash in Depaula's bedroom. Police also recovered the stolen iPad, police said.

Police charged Depaula with possession class B (cocaine) with intent to distribute and receiving stolen property over $250. Depaula was held overnight at Barnstable Police Department on those charges and will be arraigned in Barnstable District Court today. ICE Officials are continuing their investigation relative to his immigration status and the criminal charges in Brazil.

De Souza was taken into custody on an ICE warrant he was booked at the BPD and turned over to ICE Officials.
