Arraignment Today for 2 Charged in Daylight Robbery at Knifepoint

Surveillance video plus traffic stop equals two arrests.

Two men are set to be arraigned today on charges they robbed a local man at knifepoint at the Mini Food Mart on Main Street in Hyannis.

Curtis M. Maciel, 24, and Shondell Q. Rateree, 21, are both charged with armed robbery and assault and battery. They were being held at the Barnstable Police Facility on $5,000 bail, Barnstable police reported.

Police allege two men set upon the victim at 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 9, a Sunday, in the parking lot of the mini-mart. The victim was knocked or fell to the ground and his backpack was taken. The men fled on foot in opposite directions.

Detective Jason Laber led the investigation, aided by surveillance video from the mini-mart and the Street Crimes Unit.

Here's what BPD said in a release: "Laber was able to Locate Curtis Maciel walking on Main St. Hyannis in front of the JFK Library and arrested him without incident. Later that same evening, Yarmouth Police Officer Ambrosini was conducting a traffic stop with the Barnstable Street Crimes Unit and spotted Rateree on Barnstable Rd. Rateree was also arrested walking near the scene of the original crime and he was transported to the Barnstable Police Dept."
