Video Shows Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Process

A dry cask storage system, similar to the the one used at Diablo Canyon Power Plant, will be used at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth.

This YouTube video provides an in depth look at the spent fuel storage at Diablo Canyon Power Plant in California. A similar system to store spent nuclear fuel rods will soon be used at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth.

The video was included as part a webinar on dry cask storage conducted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission last week.

The concrete pad that the dry casks will be stored on at Pilgrim was completed in November. The NRC expects the first three casks to be loaded by the summer or fall of 2014.
