“I’m Animal Friendly” License Plate Makes the Perfect Holiday Gift

As residents around the Commonwealth rush to buy last-minute holiday gifts for relatives and loved ones, the Massachusetts Animal Coalition (MAC) announced a call for animal lovers to consider purchasing an “I’m Animal Friendly” license plate for their special someone.

The “I’m Animal Friendly” license plate enables drivers to send a powerful message to others on the road: that spaying and neutering all animals is essential to controlling the pet population.  The plate is one of several important programs and initiatives run by MAC to decrease the number of homeless, neglected, displaced and abused animals in Massachusetts.

A Custom License Plate Under Every Tree

The “I’m Animal Friendly” license plate can be ordered online at www.petplate.org.  Purchasers can also buy a plate at their local registry of motor vehicles, or download a gift certificate that can be placed in a Holiday card by clicking here.

The purchase is fully tax deductible and proceeds from the plates fund low-cost spay and neuter programs for dogs, cats and rabbits across Massachusetts.  Since the program’s inception in 2004 more than 1.3 million plates have been sold, supporting more than 30,000 spay and neuter surgeries.  All told, the program has prevented the birth of over 150,000 unwanted dogs, cats and rabbits.

The plates are sent via U.S. mail and drivers can simply pop off their old plates and install the new ones.  Old plates can be returned to the registry of motor vehicles and recycled.

“What better way to celebrate the spirit of the Holiday season than supporting spay and neuter efforts that dramatically reduce homeless and suffering for animals in Massachusetts—not just this year but for many years to come,” said Anne Lindsay, founder of the Massachusetts Animal Coalition.  “This is a time of year when I call on all of us to think not only of the people in our lives but also animals whose wellbeing and security are often overlooked.”

MAC is a statewide, non-profit organization comprised of animal professionals and individual volunteers who promote collaboration, ongoing education programs, and responsible and humane animal care practices.  Monies raised from the “I’m Animal Friendly” license plate program fund the spaying and neutering of cats, dogs and rabbits at minimal cost.  Proceeds are granted out each year by MAC to nonprofit animal organizations and city and town animal control departments within the Commonwealth.   For more information about MAC, including the many programs and initiatives it runs to help animals in Massachusetts, visit the organization’s Website at www.massanimalcoalition.org
