Community Corner

Good Morning, Barnstable!

My name is Sara Mannal. As the next local editor for Barnstable-Hyannis Patch.com, I'd like to take a moment (and some column space) to introduce myself.

I wasn’t born on Cape Cod, nor was I raised here. I washed ashore in 2009, when my husband and I moved to Centerville to be closer to family.

I grew up in Wooster, Ohio, and lived in the Buckeye State for most of my life.  In 2004, I graduated from The Ohio State University (OSU) with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. As an undergraduate student, I fell in love with journalism and worked as a reporter for OSU’s student newspaper, The Lantern, as well as an intern for WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio. Upon graduating, I worked as an Assignment Editor for a statewide television news station known as The Ohio News Network.

In 2009, after relocating to the Cape with my family, I thought that my career as a newswoman had come to an end, but little did I know that it was just beginning. In 2010, I worked briefly as a free-lance radio news reporter for Cape Cod Broadcasting and covered local elections. The following year, I was offered and accepted the position of morning news anchor for 99.9FM WQRC, 104.7FM WOCN, and 107.5FM WFCC.  For the past year and a half I have enjoyed bringing local news and community events to radio listeners on Cape Cod.

As the local editor of Barnstable-Hyannis Patch.com my goal is to do the same thing. I want this to be the website that you check first thing in the morning and throughout the day. I hope to deliver engaging news about community events and activities, as well as provide readers with information that is relevant to living, working and playing in Barnstable and the Cape.

I am also interested in fostering a real online community and encourage readers to submit content, blog, and generally sound off on the articles and issues that concern you. Please feel free to send me an email anytime.
