Looking for ways to spend the weekend? Try a pumpkin festival, a wild food challenge and the Martha's Vineyard Food & Wine Festival.

Pumpkin Festival

is hosting a , featuring hayrides, face painting, games, a hay maze, food and a pumpkin-carving contest on Saturday, October 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Sock Hop

The is putting on poodle skirts and leather jackets and taking over Nectar’s for a silent auction, “zany live auction” and a ‘50s-style sock hop with DJ Jason Araujo on Saturday, October 15 from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $25 and includes pizza and salad bar. All proceeds benefit the Charter School.

 

Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival

Thehas arrived, bringing with it a series of classes, a grand tasting, food and wine dinners and a brunch. The Grand Tasting takes place on Saturday, October 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Field Club in Edgartown. Tickets are $125. For a complete list of events, go to www.mvfoodandwine.com.

 

Martha's Vineyard Derby Final Awards

The Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass & Bluefish Derby is coming to an end. All are invited to attend the final awards ceremony and grand raffle at  on Sunday, October 16 at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to all, including nonparticipants in the derby. Food will be provided by Flatbread Company. Winners of the 2011 Grand Prizes, a 22 Eastern boat and the Chevy Silverado Pickup Truck, will be announced.

 

Vineyard Crop Walk

The 10K kicks off on Sunday, October 16 at 2 p.m. at . Participants will circle the Martha’s Vineyard Campmeeting Association and return to the church, raising money for the hungry. Sign-up begins at 1:30 p.m. For information on how to collect donations, go to www.cropwalk.org. The 10K is sponsored by the Island Clergy Association, the Vineyard Committee on Hunger and the Vineyard Food Pantry.

 

Local Wild Food Challenge

The second annual will held at the Rod and Gun Club on the Boulevard at Sengekontacket Pond on Sunday, October 16 at 4 p.m. The event is free for both participants and spectators; all are invited to hunt, fish or forage for local ingredients and turn them into a delicious, prize-winning dish. Judging begins at 6 p.m.
