Local hockey coaches will have the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the area this weekend, as the Boston Bruins offer a free coaching symposium at TD Garden.

The team announced last week that the event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in Boston for all USA Hockey certified coaches.

Members of the Bruins coaching staff will be joined by black and gold player and current Harvard men’s hockey coach Ted Donato. Also in attendance will be several members of hockey development from USA Hockey.

In addition, Susan Canning, the president of the KEVS Foundation, will speak about the need for automated external defibrillators in hockey rinks. The topic was a relevant one last season for the Bruins when a fan collapsed and was jolted back to life during a team practice at Wilmington’s Ristuccia Arena.

When the symposium concludes at 10:30 a.m., coaches are invited to stay at TD Garden and watch the team practice until about 1 p.m.

“The Bruins Symposium gives local youth hockey coaches the chance to listen to the professionals from the Bruins and USA Hockey speak on topics that they can translate back to their organizations to run more effective practices and develop better all around hockey players,” said Bruins Manager of Youth Hockey Development Mike Dargin.
