New York Artist Paints the Town of Osterville

Artist Christine Frisbee has her first single artist show at the Osterville Library
Christine Frisbee of New York City and Osterville, Massachusetts will hold her first public showing of her personal artwork at The Osterville Library on August 1, 2013. The beauty of Cape Cod was one of the inspirations that encouraged Frisbee to show her art publically on the Cape for the first time. Her stunning collection of over 15 landscape oil paintings will be showcased at the Library from August 1st to the 30th, with a public reception on August 9, 2013 from 5-7 PM.
Frisbee finds inspiration for her painting in nature, but most specifically in the sky and clouds. Painting the contrasts of her two homes, New York City and the Cape, are challenges Frisbee loves. The freshness of the Cape Cod air and light, and the energy of New York City’s Central Park, are the catalysts for her landscape oil paintings. From a young age, Frisbee was surrounded by an artistic family who had a keen eye for wonderful art, including collections from 18th Century artists such as John Constable and Sir Joshua Reynolds. Throughout her life, art, and oil painting in particular, became the focus of her enjoyment.
Born in Summit, New Jersey, Christine was introduced to oil painting at the age of 14 at Oak Knoll School. She continued to paint in college and also painted as she started her family. She took classes in a small studio in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. When she moved to London for four years, she studied various arts through classes at various local museums. Among the classes, she studied how to apply gold leaf to frames and how to repair and repaint antique china. When she moved to New York City, Frisbee studied at the National Art Gallery and took sketching classes at the National Arts Club. During her summers on Cape Cod, she studied with artists Dennis Rafferty of Maine and Jonathan McPhillips of Rhode Island. She also took part in classes at the Rowayton Arts Center with Annie Howell Adams from Washington State.

“The light and shadows from the sun and clouds, along with clean colors, are what inspire my painting.” Christine says. “I paint landscapes that are peaceful and happy. My own style evolves as I try to paint in a more impressionistic style. I enjoy finding the finest materials and stretching my own canvases so that the final painting is of the best quality.”

Christine Frisbee's oil paintings are presently showing at the following galleries:
