As it gears up for the Second Annual Disaster 5K Run/Walk on Oct. 20, the American Red Cross Cape Cod & Islands Chapter asks participants to dress as their favorite superheroes to honor those local police officers, firefighters and military personnel who are always the first to respond to disaster.
Police, fire and military personnel will receive $5 off their registration fee by calling 508-775-1540, ext. 21.
Registration is now open. Runners or walkers who raise $100 will receive a Red Cross baseball hat, while those who raise $250 will get a Red Cross sport bag. Participants who raise $500 will win a fleece vest as a thank you gift. The best individual and team costume will also take home a prize. Located at the Hyannis Village Green, registration starts at 8 a.m. on Oct. 20. The race kicks off at 9:15 a.m.
The American Red Cross chapter serving Cape Cod and the Islands provides disaster relief, services to Armed Forces and their families, preparedness training and supports first responders at emergencies. All money raised will go toward the Cape Cod and the Islands chapter for these programs.
