Tell Us: Should Medical Marijuana Be Legal?

Question 3 on the Nov. ballot will ask about legalizing medical marijuana.

This November voters will be able to cast a vote for or against legalizing medical marijuana in the Commonwealth.

Those in favor of legalizing medical marijuana have formed the Committee For Compassionate Medicine or "Yes" for Massachusetts Patients, according to WBUR.

The opponents are at MaVoteNoOnQuestion3.com.

Question 3 on the ballot reads: “A yes vote would enact the proposed law eliminating state criminal and civil penalties related to the medical use of marijuana, allowing patients meeting certain conditions to obtain marijuana produced and distributed by new state-regulated centers, or, in specific hardship cases, to grow marijuana for their own use.”

So we want to know: Are you for or against bringing medical marijuana to the state? Let us know in the comments

Uhh this is a no-friggin-brainer. How does using marijuana (Remember folks, one does not have to always 'smoke' it) do more harm than lets say Alcohol? or cigarettes? If something helps someone feel better, than by all meens use whatever crutch you need. We live in a world where one can easily go to a doctor to get prescribed "happy" pills, or percs which RAVAGE the body over time. Anyone who votes against this bill is stuck in the 1930's and needs to move the hell on.

If an individual suffers from an affliction which causes pain or discomfort, and all other forms of medication have failed, then it would appear that there is little or no harm in allowing that individual to employ marijuana as part of a doctor supervised course of treatment, to not allow the individual to employ this treatment is contra to the very purpose of the oath which Doctors take regarding the treatment of their patients.

Well said Jack.

I'm sorry but marijuana is the work of the devil. Think of the children!!
Ted Danson September 13, 2012 at 03:49 PM
@Mike I know you're sarcastic but their are (sadly) people who think that way.

Alas, no referendum question on the ballot this fall is going to change public policy in Massachusetts - that's in the hands of the legislators. And as evidenced by crackdowns in California and Colorado, state sanction is no shield from prosecution by the Feds, either. We need legislation passed on the federal level to legalize medical marijuana, to legitimize this once and for all.

Nope, should not be legal.
Casey Meserve September 13, 2012 at 07:05 PM
Why do you think so Tim?

It would save $2.4 BILLION dollars of law enforcement costs that could be used to catch Pedophiles and Murderers and it would give the Mexican drug cartels no more power here. Plus no selling by schools, there are strict laws about where dispensaries can be located. And who ever hurt anyone when they were stoned, the worst you might do is talk someone to death! No one goes home and beats their family because they are too stoned. If you want my opinion, control Alcohol more and make Marijuana completely legal!

Just give every one a free pass and let them smoke themselves silly and they can even sell it in the farmers market as a spice or a vegetable. Oh oh yeah baby

If anyone here has or knows someone who has been prescribed medical marijuana (and used it), please let me know. I am an intern at WCAI radio in Woods Hole and I am covering the three ballot initiative questions. It doesn't matter if you are for or against, I would just like to speak with someone who has first hand experience with prescribed, medical marijuana.
