Steamship Vessel Crashes into Boat, Dock

The accident occurred during a 9:15 am departure to Nantucket.

Within hours of crashing into the Sankaty, Steamship Authority's M/V Eagle will be back at it for its 2:45 pm voyage.

On its 9:15 am trip to Nantucket the Eagle crashed into the Sankaty on its way out of Hyannis harbor and hit the dock on the way back in.

In a The Inquirer and Mirror report, H. Flint Ranney, Nantucket's representative on the boat line's board of governors said, "this morning at 9:15 the Eagle was backing out of the Hyannis slip and scraped the bow of the Sankaty which was in the next slip. The Eagle has a tear about three feet long on her port side at the mezzanine level, well above the water line, and is being fitted with a patch. An investigation has begun to see if there was any steering or engine malfunction. No one was injured and there was no serious damage."
